Rodrigo Riquelme returns. The 20-year-old hits Dominic Solanke’s feet and after holding him well, the Englishman puts him back for the boy, whose low shot is saved by Fraser Forster.

Jan Bednarek blocks Arnaut Danjuma’s pass, and the Dutchman wants to break into space. The pole is fully booked.

The resulting free kick is hoisted by Sergio Rico. Steve Cook takes the ball from the right edge of the box and shoots with a shot from close range by Rodrigo Riquelme.

James Ward-Prowse takes two dangerous free kicks into the Bournemouth box, the second from Asmir Begovic is picked up.

Stuart Armstrong starts a busy run to the right, pulling him back for Ryan Bertrand, but the England international is easily off Out of balance and distorting his efforts.

Southampton believes they have the lead … but wait! A brilliant build that starts with Fraser Forster and must have been at least 20 passes leads Jan Bednarek to ping a brilliant ball for Kyle Walker-Peters, who controls well before playing the ball in for the unfortunate Cameron Carter-Vickers his own net slide.

Jack Stacey’s cross is turned to a corner by Moussa Djenepo, but the guests clear the danger. Fraser Forster tries to fend off Che Adams for the counterattack but his clearance is just too far ahead of the recent call in Scotland.

Southampton were briefly top of the Premier League in early November, but injuries and disagreements have pushed them to the bottom half.

The Saints won the competition 1976 and finished second three times, most recently in 2003 when they lost 1-0 to Arsenal.

However, their last run to the semi-finals was in 2018 when they were eliminated by Chelsea.

Woodgate has been at Vitality Stadium since taking over Recorded five league wins, two draws and three losses, and also recorded a win over Burnley that resulted in them reaching the FA Cup’s last eight for the first time since 1957, the furthest they have ever competed in . Could you go one step further and make history?
