A Richmond Hill McDonald’s has reopened following a “thorough cleaning” after two employees are presumed to have COVID-19, a statement from the company’s head office said.
Two workers at the restaurant at 420 Hwy. 7, west of West Beaver Creek Road, reported Sept. 15 that they are presumed positive for the virus, the statement said.
“Out of an abundance of caution, the decision was made to immediately shut down the restaurant for a thorough cleaning and sanitization by a certified third party,” the statement said.
“We are working to ensure we reopen safely, as we know our guests depend on their local McDonald’s and we are committed to doing our part to help our communities.”
All crew members who may have been in close contact with the employees have been asked to self-quarantine until further information is available.
The company is directing customers who were at the location on Sept. 9 or 11 to visit the Ontario public health website, publichealthontario.ca, at for advice.
McDonald’s has protocols in place to keep customers and staff safe during COVID-19 such as having hand sanitizer dispensers available, doing regular cleaning and sanitizing of high-touch areas, having floor markers promoting physical distancing, fitting front counters with protective screens, marking tables for physical distancing, limiting the number of customers allowed and requiring employees to wear masks and gloves when taking money or serving customers, the company statement said.
“We continue to work with local health authorities to support our people and our guests and look forward to getting back to serving our community as soon as we can,” it said.
