Eastern Health issued a consultant to residents of Blue Crest Cottages at Grand Bank of potential exposure to COVID-19 after a recent resident tested positive for the virus.

The infected resident was in contact with another person who had recently tested positive for the virus. Contacts are being traced and close contacts will be informed of quarantine for a period of 14 days.

Eastern Health has put in place special measures to prevent the possible spread of the disease, which it calls « extreme caution. ».

Residents are required to stay in their apartments, restrict visitors to those providing care and not use any common areas while monitoring symptoms..

If residents are forced to leave their apartments, they are required to wear a mask, wash their hands, and stay at least six feet from others.

Any essential workers entering a country home, such as a homecare worker, must wear masks and sanitize their hands.

This leaves three confirmed cases of COVID-19 on the Grand Bank’s Burin Peninsula.

Mayor Rex Matthews admits although this is a big concern, he says the city is in safe hands with Eastern Health managing the situation well..
