The Quebec Nordic logo with a touch of burgundy? Fleur de not along the bottom of a white jacket? In 2020? It happens.

It’s been 25 years since the Nordiques relocation to Denver put an end to one of the most iconic slogans in NHL history. And for a quarter of a century, fans had been anxious for Avalanche to bring it back – at least for one more match..

These fans and the rest of the hockey world will finally get their wish. Well kind of.

NHL’s new range of men’s shirts gives teams a chance to present details from the past, remixed for the future. And that’s what the avalanche did. The Nordiques will be back in Denver, and it was announced on Monday as the NHL released 31 backwards jerseys. Sporty stripes of white jersey and Fleur de Lis in burgundy.

“The retro retro jersey is unique in that it represents the rich history of our club and its bright future, using the iconic Nordiques brands remixed with the beloved burgundy and blue in Avalanche,” said Declan Bulger, Senior Vice President of Marketing at &. For Avs. The jacket pays homage to Quebec City’s franchise time, the first 25 seasons in Colorado, and will be popular not only to Avalanche and Nordic fans, but to all fans of the game.

The avalanche did not ignore their historical pasts of Quebec. After seven years in transition, Avs and Montreal Canadiens, former-town competitors from Nordiques, played a pre-season match in front of a crowd run out at the Pepsi Colisee in Quebec City. Colorado wore his own jerseys to the match. But before the ball landed, Aves and former Nordic greats Joe Sacic, Peter Forsberg and Adam Foote stood at the Ace Center for the classic Nordic blue jersey sport..

It was a spooky sight of a city and fanbase who lost seven years of avalanche dominance with the same core group that was once their own.

Twelve years later, with Patrick Roy, Canadian goalkeeper and former Colorado coach, Avs and Habs joined again for a pre-season match in Quebec City. The Avs didn’t wear the Nordiques that night.

It is not clear when or how often the new jerseys will be worn. For most teams, the reverse retrograde group is dark in the first place. But Avs is one of a handful of teams to have released a white jersey. When Colorado chose to wear the new look at Ball Arena, it would do so as the home team would wear white, just as the rule was when the Nordiques were part of the NHL from 1979 to 1995.
