British Airways and Virgin Atlantic Airways are not offering refunds to passengers who cancel year-end travel due to new UK coronavirus rules, even as regulators investigate airlines’ prior refusal to return cash to customers who are in lockdown.

BA from IAG SA will grant ticket holders a voucher or have them changed at a later date, it said. It said it only refunds fares if the airline cancels a flight, a policy confirmed by Virgin Atlantic in a Twitter post. document. write («  »); googletag. cmd. push (function () {googletag. defineOutOfPageSlot (‘/ 6516239 / outofpage_1x1_desktop’, ‘div-gpt-ad-1490771277198-0’). addService (googletag. pubads ()); googletag. The refund issue sparked a firestorm when similar curbs were in place last month. The UK’s Competition and Markets Authority launched an investigation last week into whether airlines violated consumer rights by not offering passengers their money on flights they couldn’t lawfully take.

« Some airlines like EasyJet have largely done the right thing and offered refunds, while others like BA only offer the option of voucher or rebooking, » said Rory Boland, tour guide at Consumer Advocacy Group Which?. “This is exactly what the CMA investigation is investigating, as the wording of the Tier 4 restrictions suggests that they are regulatory requirements, not guidelines. You should therefore receive a refund. ”
