The’ heinous’ attack on a Sikh student was condemned by MPs and the police and the West Mercia detective.
A video showing a boy being attacked in Telford has been circulated on social media and is now the subject of a hate crime investigation.
The school said the incident happened when the students were on Friday the 13th. November, went home and took « quick, immediate and appropriate action ». .
A number of MPs have spoken out since then. One said this brought « painful memories » of how she was treated as a child.
Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi, Labor MP from Slough, said: « It is sad to see such disgusting behavior towards a boy.
« @charlton_school expects you to take action immediately and that others in Telford will help you take quick action. «
Claudia Webbe, Labor MP from Leicester East added: « The racial bullying of a young Sikh child is unacceptable.
« It brings back painful memories of how I was treated as a kid; physically beaten by & from school.
« Combating this hate crime will require a multi-agency response. This is not just a problem for schools, but for civil society as a whole. «

Meanwhile, West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion has stated that combating hate crimes is a priority for the force.

« As PCC continues to make the fight against hate crime a priority, we all have the right to be who we are without fear of other people’s behavior.
