Health officials are expected to update the number of COVID-19 cases, deaths and recoveries across the province.

Businesses struggling to pay their bills due to the COVID-19 pandemic can apply today for a long-awaited new commercial rent relief program offered by the federal government.

The new Canadian Emergency Rent Subsidy replaces a previous business rental support program that was launched in the spring and saw little pickup as landlords relied on it to seek help.

The new program covers up to 65 percent of the interest on rent or commercial mortgages, based on declines in sales. Another 25 percent are available to the most affected companies.

Federal Cabinet Ministers will highlight the program during a press conference on Monday when they will also open two programs designed to help Black Canadians-owned companies.

The revised program requires entrepreneurs to pay their rent prior to applying, making the subsidy inaccessible for many cash-strapped businesses.
