The Wild Mountain Thyme Star has two daughters with husband John Krasinski
Emily Blunt says it is her children who really helped keep her spirits up during the pandemic.
The London-born actress, 37, who has two daughters, Hazel, 6, and Violet, 4, with husband John Krasinski, has spent significant time at home with her family this year.
« Being with young children during the pandemic was such a saving grace because they would just be jumping around the house. Your job is to keep them safe from what’s happening and make sure their lives stay happy, « Blunt told this week’s PEOPLE issue.
Adds Blunt, « That must have been a great lifeline for John and me during the pandemic. «

Blunt, who plays an Irish farmer in her new movie Wild Mountain Thyme, says one of the greatest joys in life has been watching her girls develop their own personalities.
« It’s wonderful to see them become their own little people, » she says. « I think they’re getting out of the way [they should]. «
« They’re like bowling balls, » explains Blunt. « You come out and you are the bumpers trying to make sure they don’t get hurt too. But they are on their own way. «
Blunt starred in Mary Poppins Returns in 2018 and says when she looks back on the iconic role that Julie Andrews first made famous in the original 1964, she’s proud to make her own version of the magical nanny can.
« Even though my kids in our house are still screaming for the Julie Andrews version, » she says with a laugh. « I didn’t convince my own children. «
And despite the challenges 2020 brought with it, she will always be grateful for the extra family time.
« I’m so grateful that I had the time to spend with my family, » she says, « because I think I’ll probably look back on it and see how valuable it really was. «
