World News – CA – Final warning for people to stay safe while celebrating Halloween this weekend

Residents of Derry using fireworks at home are urged to be extra careful

With all of the public Halloween events in Derry canceled this year due to the pandemic, there are fears that more people in the city will host their own fireworks celebrations at home

>

The Derry City and Strabane District Council as well as the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) have called for those intending to be very careful

The Council’s responsible for community health and wellness, Seamus Donaghy, urged people to be aware of the dangers of fireworks in the garden, disguises and excessive alcohol, and to read all the tips to ensure a safe and happy Halloween

« Each year we encourage people to follow the advice as we prepare to welcome tens of thousands to the city for Halloween celebrations, » he said.

« This year will be a very different occasion, but the risks are still very real when it comes to some of the care elements of Carnival

« These risks mainly relate to the dangers presented by fireworks, candles and open flames, alcohol and drugs and unfortunately these things can be just as harmful in the home, especially around young people children We urge parents to heed the warnings and create a safe and protected environment for children

« Young people, we ask you not to gather in groups on the streets or at house parties, not to indulge in alcohol, to avoid drugs and to be responsible », a underlined M Donaghy

« I understand these are tough times, but we can have fun if we follow the instructions

« Share this moment with your immediate family and let’s all do our part to ensure a safe and happy Halloween for all »

« We also ask people to be especially careful with fireworks, fireworks and disguises. You need a license to buy fireworks and you shouldn’t only use those with a CE mark

« It has been a tough time for all of us and we want everyone to have a safe and enjoyable Halloween. Please support your firefighters and make sure everyone is having fun by putting on safety first «
