The New Orleans Saints defense has risen and now the attack is preparing for a major shift in midfield.

Last week was not what you expected. Yes, the New Orleans Saints won their sixth game in a row in another multi-point win over San Francisco 49. Alvin Camara scored three distances and appeared on the defense for the second week in a row, along with the opening push. But it all took an understandable backstory in the news that Drew Press had suffered multiple rib fractures and a collapsed lung over the past two weeks.. The Five Questions prior to the Team Saints’ game against the Atlanta Falcons advancing with relief archers James Winston and Tesom Hill.

This sounds obvious to me, but it’s largely a topic of conversation. Most of the national media seems to agree that it will be the Sunday James Winston Show as the Saints’ Atlanta. However, Director Technical Director Sean Payton is still mum on the subject that he does not mention the name of the initiating QB until it becomes absolutely necessary.. It even took a while to mention both midfielders. Keep in mind that Payton did the same thing last year before the Saints traveled to Seattle from Los Angeles, they even teased the 2 QB system a bit.. During the five games, Teddy was the initiator and this time I imagine he’s actually going to be James for the most part of the competition. But could Payton throw a curve ball and Taysom « start » giving him the first shots? We often take credit for the Saints’ coach for playing chess while others play checkers, so can we see another example of this on Sunday?

Last year, after starting with 15 and 21 attack shots for the season opener. That changed as Teddy Bridgewater was the start in Weeks 3-7. Then those attack shots decreased to 4, 6, 15, 11 and 13, respectively. Would that drop in shots be the case this time if James Winston took the bulk of the pregnancy as expected? A key factor to consider here is the other injuries around the team.

Tre’Quan Smith and Josh Hill suffered extensively from a concussion in the Brutal Frontier Match on Sunday.. Both players, as Coach Payton mentioned after the match, have big roles in the running game. If Smith wastes time, wide receivers could help Marquis Callaway and coaching team member Joan Johnson to fill the role.. However, if Josh Hill loses time, this could translate into more opportunities for Taisom to engage the offensive side.. Tight ends Garrett Griffin and Ethan Wolf are also two options outside of the coaching team.

The disadvantage of using Taysom is that the team risks being hit and losing QB depth if there is another injury in the center. But, as Deuce McAllister has pointed out, the Saints should be invested in putting better weapons around Winston. Tesum is one of those weapons.

After allowing only three points for Tampa Bay Buccaneers, we reasonably expected a slight drop in the next week.. The drop has occurred in the face of lesser-known creative crime and Uber for the 49ers. However, they lived up to hope that this drop put them in a better position to perform early in the season. Not only did they drop 13 points, they did not allow a score from 14:56 in the second quarter to deep in the fourth quarter, and they also added takeaways to close the match before the two-minute warning.. Raise your hand if you bind Patrick Robinson to bind the captain of the team to interceptions.

Another factor in the defensive success of the Saints is their continued dominance in the running game. Football Outsiders provided an impressive breakdown of how great New Orleans are to face racing. Bottom line, this season’s performance is the best since 1999.

Two orders should disagree with Jameis Winston and / or Taysom Hill periodically down the center. Not the least of which is the amount of snaps and concepts the team can unlock back up. As we know, the yardage doesn’t translate directly into success, but it sure is a fun football brand. If Sean Payton was planning to order some of his playbook in 2006-2015, which player would benefit the most? We’ve seen Michael Thomas play on the field even though the national point of view presumes otherwise. Emmanuel Sanders had more than a few big plays in midfield for 49 players last year and he can still win his ways to create that deep chapter.. How about guys like Tre’Quan Smith (if they’re healthy), Marquez Callaway, and Deonte Harris? We’ve seen Saints request deep shots of Harris on multiple occasions. Now we may see them able to multiply with more hesitation. There’s also a chance Payton could play a conservative early on in this game to get Winston and Hale safe when either is under position.. This could represent a great day for Alvin Camara at the scroll game.

After years of unfounded conversations about whether or not Bryce makes Payton or Payton make Drew, Peyton has won five straight matches with Teddy Bridgewater beginning last year.. He took on the challenge of developing a game plan that put Teddy where he needed to be to win. He did so five games in a row, including matches against strong defenses. What if he did it all over again, novice with a convincing victory over his rival Falcon? Deuce Windham did an amazing detail comparing Payton between some of the best callers in NFL history. Does creating a winning form with three, or maybe even four by the time Brees are back, helping the different midfielders separate him a little more in that conversation. I personally think it should.
