OTTAWA, ON, October Jan. 12, 2020 / CNW / – Many people continue to feel the effects of COVID-19 and need temporary income support To ensure Canadians continue get the help they need, the Government of Canada has introduced three new benefits, offered by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA): the Canadian Recovery Benefit (CRB), the Canadian Health Care Benefit Recovery (CRSB) and the Canadian Recovery Care Benefit (CRCB)
Today, the Honorable Diane Lebouthillier, Minister of National Revenue, opened the CRB application processApplications for CRSB and CRCB were opened on October 5, 2020
The CRB pays $ 500 per week for up to 26 weeks to workers who have stopped working or have seen their employment / self-employment income reduced by at least 50% due to COVID-19 and who are not eligible for EI
The CRA provides a simple and efficient application process for the CRB, similar to the one millions of Canadians have relied on to access the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) Eligible individuals can apply for these benefits online via the CRA’s My Account portal or by phone via our automated toll-free line at 1-800-959-2019 or 1-800-959-2041
To ensure that the benefits of recovery provide more targeted support to those who still need it, the CRB application process includes new elements, such as:
The government is committed to putting safeguards in place to protect Canadians against fraud and non-compliance To this end, the CRA is taking action to implement audit and security measures upfront, to ensure that we only pay benefits to those who are entitled to receive them
To claim these benefits, we encourage Canadians to sign up for CRA’s My Account, ensure personal information with the CRA is up to date, and sign up for direct depositPeople are encouraged to file a tax return for 2019, if they haven’t yet, as this will reduce the likelihood that the CRA will need to request additional information before the request can be processed.
