Here comes Impact’s biggest night, and it would be great if someone called her who didn’t get you to mute the TV.

As much as I care about Kenny Omega’s Impact debut, I was scared tonight for a reason. And the title of this piece gave it away: Impact commentator Josh Mathews is terrible at commenting.

Working with Madison Rayne, Mathews Impact took all of Impact’s interest (although « World Champ Rich Swann » are four words that don’t help). . Not just for TV recordings, but also for those nights when I actually paid cash to give Impact another chance and watch their PPVs.

I don’t know if Rayne is good or not, but I can say Mathew’s voice and delivery are gross. No, not like Michael Cole in the era of the « Cole Miners ».

Josh Mathews is so loud, fake, and disgusting that I just wish I could pay to get his voice off the track. He’s working in a bad position – an absolutely empty arena – but when I adjusted to Impact he was absolutely the worst.

And since that can’t be done, I really hope Impact finds another way to air its most important show in years, if not its most important episode since the early TNA days.

People I know who watch Impact regularly – who somehow manage to find Mathews tolerable – tell me the episode hasn’t sparked any major matches over the past week. The company has to do its best.

AEW should change the world – and Kenny Omega, who brings the AEW championship to impact, certainly smells like a game changer. Especially when they sort of open the AEW gate and start a talent exchange (hell, the AEW segment where they parodied the hangover opened the swoggle gate).

But what if Impact really wants to impress – and make people wonder why they don’t tune in more – and want to change the world of pro-wrestling? You have to start with their voice.

Don Callis has already been featured on AEW television and could « remove » Mathews from his seat tonight. Maybe Callis and Rayne wouldn’t be so repulsive. I dont know.

But Impact wrestlers deserve that their company presents them in the best possible light and that their (often botched) presentation doesn’t reveal everyone.
