A nationwide 50/50 draw will take place on every match day of the upcoming IIHF Junior World Championship 2021.

While the tournament doesn’t officially start from the Edmonton Bubble until Christmas Day, pre-tournament games begin on Tuesday, as does the 50/50 tie.

Starting Tuesday and every matchday at the World Juniors, fans in Alberta can buy 50/50 tickets online for US $ 5 from 9 a.m.. m. MT on every game day. Ticket sales end at 10 p.m.. m. every game day.

“The 50/50 draw is a tradition synonymous with live sports, and while fans will be enjoying World Juniors from home this year, Hockey Canada, Hockey Canada Foundation, and Hockey Alberta wanted Foundation keep the tradition alive and ensure that fans continue to have an enjoyable experience for the World Juniors, ”said Tim Leer, executive director of the Hockey Alberta Foundation.

“As fans in Alberta tune in to see Team Canada defend their gold medal, they have a great opportunity to compete in World Juniors while contributing to grassroots hockey programs across the province. ”

The winner of each drawing takes home half of the total pot. The other half will be reinvested in grassroots hockey programs, according to Hockey Canada, to improve the quality of life for Albertans through hockey while supporting the local community..

The tournament officially starts on Christmas Day and lasts until January. 5. Canada will play their first game against Germany at 4pm. m. MT on Boxing Day.

In addition to the 50/50, Hockey Canada is hosting two other competitions during the Juniors of the World: the Hockey Canada Contest and the Hockey Canada Memorabilia Auction.

Teams competing in this year’s World’s Juniors arrived in Edmonton earlier this month to join the downtown « bubble ».

Two Swedish employees left a mandatory four-day quarantine for all countries after arriving in Canada and tested positive for COVID-19.

Both Swedish games before the tournament were canceled. The quarantine for part of this team has been extended to Monday.

The majority of the German team will remain isolated until Thursday. The games before the tournament in Germany were also canceled as eight players tested positive.
