World News – CA – Kia Turns To Military Market, Aims To Create New Platform For Military Vehicles – Car Dealer Magazine

If you thought the Kia Sorento was a tough SUV, think again because Kia has revealed its intention to build military vehicles

The South Korean company has announced that it will develop a new standard platform for next-generation military vehicles, and prototypes could be tested by the end of the year

The new vehicles will undergo an assessment by the Korean government next year, and Kia hopes to deploy the first vehicles in 2024

The program is the result of a joint investment by the Korean military and Kia to replace 2 military vehicles of 5 and 5 tons, and development of bullet-proof vehicles of 5 tons

Kia claims that the platform was designed to be modular, allowing the construction of vehicles of different sizes or for special versions

It will be based on the current platform of Kia Mohave, a car sold in Korea, China and the United States Further, industrial and leisure vehicles could be taken off the platform

Powering the prototypes will be a 7 0-liter diesel engine with automatic transmission, complete with safety equipment including anti-spin regulator, rear parking aid, peripheral vision monitor and satellite navigation

Kia says it is building the platform to be modular so that different variants can be built later, including those that incorporate weapon systems or require changes for unique specializations

However, this is not the first time that Kia has built military vehicles The South Korean company claims to have supplied 140,000 vehicles to its national army as well as to other overseas countries
