World News – CA – Memorial Day: Let’s Always Be Thankful – Morrison – Revelstoke Review

Revelstoke MP writes about Memorial Day

Today we think of the more than 650,000 Canadians who served in World War I, and the more than 66,000 who never returned home, over 172,000 people who have returned infected and the countless number of people who have returned but have spent their lives carrying Invisible scars that she never left

Today we think of World War II veterans, and those for whom time stood still on those bloody battlefields. We think of the remarkable contributions they made in the Pacific and in the defense of Hong Kong, during the Dieppe Raid and the Italian campaign, on Victory Day and during the Battle of Normandy, during the liberation of Belgium and the Netherlands and during the fighting on the Atlantic Today we think of the brave Canadians who served years later in the Korean War, who were sent to the other side of the world where duty was grave and the mission to help United Nations forces restore peace in the « quiet morning land »

Today we think of the thousands of others who stood on the shoulders of veterans and members of the past, in the Persian Gulf, in the Balkans, in Afghanistan and in countless military operations, peace support and humanitarian operations around the world, in wartime as in time Peace, and distinguished themselves in performing their duties with honor and dignity

We think of them today because they were all proudly dressed in uniform and all of them, today and every day, deserve the celebrations we hold in their honor and deserve the gratitude we keep for them as we remember that sacrifice, we remember that 75 years ago World War II ended, ushering in a new era. Of peace, prosperity, freedom and democracy, which we are still very fortunate to enjoy today

We are the beneficiaries of what these brave young Canadians did and all that we have today owe us to the sacrifices made by those who fought in wars and everyone who has followed in their footsteps since then to defend, as members of the Canadian Armed Forces

So today, as we look at the poppy plant on our lapels, we preserve in our hearts and minds the memories of our war dead and those we have lost since then, while we honor our veterans, let us always be grateful to them for snatching the flame that their ancestors carried and continuing the long tradition they had They are proud of him by raising that torch
