The third series in Amazon Prime Video’s Indian Original catalog, crime drama Mirzapur was hailed for its nine-episode first season in 2018 Now the series is back and Shweta Tripathi has revealed a major evolution for her character Golu

The second season of the hit Indian series Mirzapur has just been released on Amazon Prime Video after two years off screen

The first episode began when a horrific incident at a wedding brought together two warring families in the corrupt town of Mirzapur

Shot in real life, as well as other parts of Uttar Pradesh, the series revolves around organized crime and mob violence that plagues parts of India

Pankaj Tripathi plays crime lord Akhandan and « Kaleen » Tripathi aka Kaleen Bhaiya, the unofficial king of Mirzapur who rules the city with an iron fist while striving to gain more power

When his son Munna (Divyendu Sharma) accidentally kills a groom at a wedding, the crime lord makes desperate efforts to absolve his family, including hiring idealistic lawyer Ramakant Pandit (Rajesh Tailang)

After proving a surprise success in 2018, the series is finally back for another round

During the first season, viewers discovered Sweety (Shriya Pilgaonkar), the love and future wife of Pandit’s son, Guddu (Ali Fazal)

Sweety also has a younger sister, Golu (Shweta Tripathi), who is expected to play a central role for the current second season.

The first season quickly revealed that Sweety and Golu’s father was a corrupt cop, and the wedding incident entangled the two families in a potentially fatal way

Although Golu remained innocent for most of the first season, she is forced to step up and protect against Munna in the gripping season finale.

Golu was quick and was forced to use a gun for the first time against Munna, sending Pandit’s daughter down a dark path in season two

Speaking to the Indian store’s DNA, Golu star Shweta Tripathi confirmed that her character will be in a completely different frame of mind by the end of season two

From a cheerful and carefree young woman who runs for her varsity election in season one, Golu is now set to take the crown from Mirzapur to Kaleen Bhaiya

Tripathi continued, “Regarding Golu, in season 1 she was a happy girl who loved to eat aloo-patty and read poems

« She fought the college elections because she wanted to be the change she wanted to see »

« But in the second season that all changes And that is of course, because of the way the first season ended »

However, comments from the Mirzapur supporting star give some hints as to how the tense situation will be handled when the season opens

She teased: « There’s a lot of fire, angst, no smiles and of course a lot of tears, which sums up the season pretty well »
