World News – CA – MMA Notes: An opportunity presents itself for Alberta heavyweight Boser

Tanner Boser is fully aware of what a victory against Andrei Arlovski would do for his career

The Bonnyville, Alta. fighter had a great streak in 2020, knocking out Philipe Lins and Raphael Pessoa in a month earlier this summer that put him on the cusp of the top 15 in the heavyweight division of UFC

A victory over a man like Arlovski, who at one point held the UFC heavyweight belt and whom Boser will fight on Saturday night in Las Vegas, would be something completely different. Not only would it solidify his place as a better heavyweight, but that would also add a legend to his list of downed opponents

« Andrei would be the biggest win of my career, he’s a former champion It’s a huge fight, » said Boser « I would say I cheer on Arlovski more than I obviously don’t in this one. ci… He was never a guy I was too much of a fan of, but I love watching him fight and I have a lot of respect for him «

After making his UFC debut late last year with a win over Daniel Spitz, Boser suffered a setback last December when he lost a unanimous decision to Ciryl Gane

Since then, Boser has become one of the few people who can say she’s had a great year. Her back-to-back wins were one thing, but her personality and unique look seemed to catch the imagination of the MMA consuming public.

It might be a bit of a stretch to say he’s become a star, but he’s certainly on the radar of a lot more people than a year ago

« I have a job to do I’m here for work I’m going to the cage and fighting who I’m supposed to fight, it turns out it’s Andrei Arlovski, » Boser said « I know that he’s a sports legend and I know he’s probably a future Hall of Fame member I don’t need to have anything against my opponent or contempt or disrespect to go in there and try to kill him It’s my job «

When Dana White announced a few weeks ago that middleweight champion Israel Adesanya was going to put on some weight to face lightweight king Jan Blachowicz, it made a lot of sense

A victory for Adesanya further strengthens his claim to be a true superstar A victory for Blachowicz would give him real credibility as the owner of a belt that was released by Jon Jones earlier this year

Whittaker lost the middleweight belt to Adesanya last year, but rebounded with big wins over Darren Till and Jared Cannonier, two of the division’s top contenders. The victory over Cannonier appeared to solidify his claim to a rematch with Adesanya, and he told MMAFightingcom this week that he’s understandably frustrated with the way the UFC books things

“The only fight that makes sense to me, and I’ve been very verbal and open about it, is that I want to fight Adesanya,” said Whittaker “This is the only fight I want , I don’t want it around Christmas It was the most important thing for me after the fight in the conferences and the media, it was just to make my timeline known, to understand and to let people know that yes , I want this fight «

At this point, it looks like the UFC will move forward with its plan to make a champion versus champion fight, but it’s reasonable to hope that Whittaker ends up getting his shot at some point in 2021.

Tito Ortiz won a Huntington Beach, Calif. city council seat this week and it’s a deeply strange sentence to write… There seems to be a growing feeling among fight fans that Khabib Nurmagomedov might not stay retired It really couldn’t be any clearer, however In a conversation with Dagestan’s acting leader Sergei Melikov, which was translated by RT Sport, Nurmagomedov doubled down and asked why people weren’t not satisfied with his decision A gambler would put his money in to never see Nurmagomedov fighting in the octagon again… An injury forced Darren Till out of his dec 5 Fight Against Jack Hermansson The fight was supposed to headline the UFC show in Vegas that night, but soaring Kevin Holland will step in instead It’s not as glamorous a fight as it was originally planned, but their match should give both Holland and Hermansson the chance to really make a name for themselves with a shining spotlight
