A pedestrian died after being hit by two vehicles while trying to cross the Island Highway in Nanaimo.
Witnesses reported to police that a man had crossed two lanes north of the road before arriving around 18. At 45:00, two vehicles in the southbound lanes near the Woodgrove Center mall hit him. m. Friday.
He was badly injured and died on the scene, Nanaimo told RCMP. The B. C.. . Coroner’s service pronounced the man dead.
The southbound lanes on the freeway between Mary Ellen Drive and Aulds Road were closed for several hours on Friday while investigators investigated the scene.
Police said the drivers involved were visibly shaken, stayed at the scene and worked with investigators.
The two vehicles involved have been towed and mechanical inspections are being carried out, the police said. Drugs and alcohol were excluded as factors for the drivers involved.
Investigators are asking all drivers with dash cam video of the incident to contact the Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 and cite file # 2020-44217
