On the agency’s first night during a shortened NBA off-season, Thunder General Manager Sam Presti resumed his deal late Friday night. Oklahoma City will swap long-time Steven Adams center for the New Orleans Pelicans as part of a multi-team trade for future first and second round designs, reported Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN and Shams Charania of The Athletic.
The Thunder voted Adams 12th in the 2013 NBA Draft from Pittsburgh. Overall rank. OKC acquired this selection last October as part of the James Harden deal with the Houston Rockets.
The New Zealand native quickly became an OKC fan favorite, both for his personality and for his play on the pitch.
In seven seasons with the thunder, Adams averaged 9. 8 points and 7. 6 rebounds per game. He is entering the final season of a four-year, $ 100 million contract that he signed in 2016.
Also late Friday night, OKC reportedly acquired strikers Trevor Ariza (via Detroit) and Justin Jackson (via Dallas) and a draft pick in a team deal with the Pistons and Mavericks that sent security guard Delon Wright from Dallas to Detroit.
Over the past seven days, the Thunder has removed many key players from last season’s roster, including Dennis Schroder, Chris Paul and Terrance Ferguson.
The 2020-21 NBA season begins December. 22nd. A schedule has yet to be published.
