The first season of Selena: The series appeared on Netflix in December. 4, and early binge watchers likely noticed by now that these first nine episodes don’t tell the full story of Selena Quintanilla’s life. In fact, most of the series so far has revolved around the upbringing, family life, and role of the late Tejano singer in Quintanillas’ family band Selena y Los Dinos – and ends with some kind of significant cliffhanger (if true stories can even have cliffhangers, that is ), just as Selena’s solo career and romantic life took off.

There is no « Bidi Bidi Bom Bom », no secret escape with bandmate Chris Pérez and no reenactment of her tragic death at the age of 23. Of course, a second season of the show is absolutely necessary – but there’s no need to push for a series renewal as Selena: The Series should always be a two-part project. Here’s everything we know so far about the next episode in the Biopic series.

The streamer hasn’t announced an exact release date yet, but filming for the second (and final) part of the show has already completed filming, according to a recently released L. . ONE. Times interview with Christian Serratos who plays Selena. After Netflix gave the series the go-ahead in late 2018, production of the first part began the following October, about a year before the episodes were released in December 2020. If Netflix sticks to this timeline, the second part of the series could be available for streaming around the same time in 2021, if not earlier.

Part One of Selena: The series explores Selena’s early life and career, which ended in 1990 when she released her second solo album and had just started a secret relationship with Pérez, much to the chagrin of her father. Season two is likely to start right where the first left off after Selena made an impressive rise to national and global fame over the last few years of her life.

So expect dramatizations of Selena’s elopement with Pérez in 1992, the start of her side appearance as a fashion designer, her groundbreaking win at the 1994 Grammy Awards, and sadly, her March 1995 murder of Yolanda Saldívar, a close friend and president of her fan club. Overall, in the second part of the series, Selena will be Selena, who has remained an icon for the past 25 years since her death: a self-confident superstar in splendidly shimmering ensembles, who sings her heart for hits of the early 90s like « Como la » Flor. «

There shouldn’t be any major cast changes between seasons – especially since they all fit their real-world inspirations pretty much perfectly – other than the introduction of an unnamed actor for Saldívar. Part two of Selena: The series will probably no longer show the child stars who played younger versions of Selena and her siblings in the first episodes. In the meantime, expect Pérez (Jesse Posey) to play an even bigger role in the second part and that Selena’s very protective father-slash manager Abraham (Ricardo Chavira) will continue to play a big role in the singer’s life on and off stage.

Selena herself will also change in a small way that might not be externally noticeable, but Serratos allowed to better capture the essence of the legendary singer: the actor told the L. . ONE. Sometimes she insisted on putting on make-up while filming part two. « Her eyebrows and her eyeliner and her lips were so specific to me, » said Serratos. « But every time I put my makeup on on set, I felt so much more like her. That started my day in character when I went to work and did my makeup. On season two, I said, “I want to do it. Selena did her own makeup, I do my own makeup. ‘ »
