World News – CA – System of a Down Releases 2 New Songs, Their First New Music in 15 Years

After more than a decade of speculation, System of a Down has announced its first new music in 15 years, with the release of two tracks, Protect the Land and Genocidal Humanoidz

The songs were written and produced by guitarist / singer Daron Malakian, recorded in October and released today in response to the Artsakh-Azerbaijan conflict

Both tracks are available for purchase on the band’s Bandcamp page, where all proceeds will go to the Armenia Fund

On this page, the band released a joint statement regarding the new songs: “As System Of A Down, we just released new music for the first time in 15 years. Now is the time to do so, because together the four of us have something extremely important to say as a unified voice

« These two songs, Protect The Land and Genocidal Humanoidz, both speak of a terrible and grave war being perpetrated against our cultural homelands of Artsakh and Armenia

« We are proud to share these songs with you and hope you enjoy listening to them.Also we encourage you to read on to learn more about their origins and once you do, hope you will inspired to talk about the terrible injustices and human rights violations that are happening there today

“Most importantly and urgently, we humbly implore you to donate, in small or large sums, to help those affected by growing stories of crimes against humanity »

System stressed that fans shouldn’t take this as a sign of a new album in the near future – even if they’re not ruling out anything

« If it were up to me, we’d have a new album every three years, » drummer John Dolmayan told Rolling Stone « But things don’t depend on me I’m at the mercy of my team , and although I fought for many years with the band members, I accepted that this is what it is « 

« I never say never, » he said « I wasn’t expecting this I was ready to release my next Scars album [on Broadway] This sort of thing happened out of the blue, so who knows If we don’t re-record I’ll just keep doing what I’m doing and everyone will keep doing what they’re doing But it was good to do that «
