World News – CA – The original Scream team discusses the new rules of modern horror

A small standalone release when it premiered in 1996, Scream went on to be a hit at the box office, starting a franchise that saw three sequels – and a fourth in the works – plus an MTV TV series.

As the classic film directed by Wes Craven continued to become more popular than ever, writer Kevin Williamson and several members of the film’s original cast roughly gathered to raise money for three different charities, looking at their own experiences filming the first movie, and discussing the legacy it had. They’ve left it behind since – plus, as exciting as they can from the upcoming Scream 5.

Among the attendees were Nev Campbell (Sydney Prescott), David Arquette (Sheriff Dewey Riley), Skate Ulrich (Billy Loomis), Matthew Lillard (Stu Masher), Jimmy Kennedy (Randy Mix) and Rose McGowan (Tatum Riley)), with all proceeds raised to help National Breast Cancer Alliance, I Have a Dream Foundation – Los Angeles, and Los Angeles Women’s Oriental Center.

While discussing memorable fan interactions in the many years since the first film debut, Kennedy, who played horror guru Randy Mix in the first two films in the series, stated that many people sometimes ask about the rules of modern horror films, referring to A famous scene in the original movie.

Kevin Williamson (The Vampire Diaries), who wrote this script, as well as those for Scream 2 and Scream 4), made some updated suggestions.

« Do not disassemble. There is no self-awareness, said Williamson, who works as executive producer in the latest movie.. « Just do the opposite of what we did.

And while Williamson says he’s not running out of ideas for horror sequences, he’s thinking about the longevity of Scream movies..

“I’m worried the franchise is kind of corroding with all the meta and disassembly and there’s only so many times you can [do it],” said former executive producer on The Vampire Diaries. “A lot of people have since made horror movies like it, or in its context. So you’re kind of worried that it’s running its course.

However, he was also quick to mention the upcoming movie, set to be released in 2022, and easily avoided this problem, thanks to screenwriters James Vanderbilt and Jay Busick, as well as directors Matt Bettinelli Olben and Tyler Gillette, the duo behind 2019’s favorite horror, Ready or Not..

“What I love about New Yelp is that it takes a new approach,” Williamson continued. “It’s the kind of beautiful new movie, but it also has the nostalgia factor running through it. For me this was the perfect blend of how to do my next shout. So this was what I was most excited about.

He also added, “I was blown away by the directors, and I was really nervous because no one is West Craven.. I was really hesitant to jump on the boat and be a part of it, and I’m glad I did because I think it would make Wes proud..

Neve Campbell, who has been the last survivor Sydney Prescott at the heart of the past four films, and will return for this new one, agrees with his feelings about the team being assembled.

“I was really worried about one of these movies making without Whis,” Campbell said. “The directors actually sent me a message when the show was sent out and they said the reason they are directors is because of Whis. So they’re even honored to ask them to make this movie, and they like him and the movies themselves, for the team, and that they really wanted to honor his voice, which is what I really am, I really think they did..

She also thinks the new movie is « new » and said it was their previous movie that gave her confidence that Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett would do well with this new movie.. I saw Ready or Not, which I thought was very good, so I thought, ‘They can do that.

David Arquette, who will reprise his role as Sheriff Dewey Riley, couldn’t tease anything either, although he indicated that he was already familiar with one of the cast members: Jack Quaid (The Boys)
