Even before Lariah Jackson and Carter Robin began their performances on the Battlefield of the Voice, their coach, Gwen Stefani, knew her job had stopped. The two young contestants got help from Julia Michaels during rehearsals while preparing for their big performance on John Legend and Megan Trainor’s « Like I’m Gonna Lose You » track.

Although 15-year-old Laria only managed to get one chair during the blind auditions, she didn’t falter a little while performing against fellow contestant Carter Robin, who had coaches John and Gwen fighting fiercely over him. During the training, Laria managed to immediately convince Julia with her soulful voice. Julia is so moved by the sadness she felt in Larya’s voice that she couldn’t help but ask her about her story.

Larya then revealed that her biological father abandoned his family at a very young age but her stepfather stepped in and treated her like his daughter and was always there for her.. While Laria’s singing captivated Julia, Carter’s notes impressed. Julia was amazed at Carter’s talent and wondered how skillful he would be when he reached her age.

During the Battle Round, both contestants performed each other perfectly. They both performed so impressive that the other coaches were happy that they weren’t in Gwen’s shoes and had to pick one of them to be the winner. Almost all coaches picked Larrya as their winner, due to her charismatic voice, but also the praise of Carter. When Gwen finally came over, she was spoiled for choice and couldn’t determine the winner.

After some deliberation, she finally chooses Carter as the winner, due to his unique voice and theatrical presence. She thanked Laria Gwen for training and helping her discover her talent. As she was leaving the stage, Gwen shocked everyone with her decision to save Larry and hit the save button. He left everyone surprised and delighted to see Larry continue her journey on the show.
