Impact Wrestling’s Final Resolution event returns after a seven-year absence and this year’s event is turning out to be a great show, so in honor of the emerging event that is on the Impact Plus app and on FITE TV too I’ve decided to count down the top 10 Final Resolution Matches in Impact Wrestling history.

10. Generation Me vs.. . Motor City machine guns in a Full Metal Mayhem Match for the TNA Tag Team Championship (Final Resolution 2010)

Nick and Matt Jackson aka The Young Buck’s were first introduced to mainstream audiences while on TNA as Max and Jeremy Buck of Generation Me, where the brothers spent most of their time at the company hanging out with Alex Shelley and Chris fight Sabin of the Motor City Machine Guns (considered one of the best tag teams in Impact and in modern wrestling in general).

Both teams spent 2010 competing in regular tag matches, Ultimate X, and an Empty Area match, but ironically, their final match in impact wrestling was at this year’s Final Resolution pay-per-view when the Guns defended their day team title against Generation Me in a full metal Mayhem match.

By this point, Impact fans were well aware that both teams can produce great matches and this was no exception as the Bucks used their standard tactic throughout the match of isolating one of the weapons and attacking the other, before embarking on a high-risk maneuver or tag team meanwhile, the Guns have also incorporated some of their more classic tag team moves into this match, while also using the guns to incapacitate their rivals.

This match is similar to the match the Hardy Boys, Edge and Christian and The Dudley Boyz had during the WWE Attitude Era. This is easy to see as both teams used tables, ladders and chairs everywhere. Ultimately, the Guns managed to keep their tag team titles against Generation Me, and while the Bucks didn’t get too much attention during their memory time in Impact, their careers after Impact certainly flourished in ROH, NJPW, the independent wrestling scene, and AEW.

Two of the X Division’s most talented stars faced each other in a grudge game after Daniels was injured by X Division Champion Samoa Joe and suffered a concussion months earlier.

Samoa Joe used his strength and punch throughout the game, while Daniels relied more on his speed to slow his much larger opponent. The intensity and bad blood between the two men was felt throughout the game and the fans were completely divided on who to cheer for in this game.

Speaking of blood, the Fallen Angel showed some color in this match as the Samoan Submission Machine gave Daniels a stiff kick outside the ring near the guardrails that allowed the X Division Champion to chase his opponent and attacking as if Joe was like a shark that smelled blood in the water.

While the match didn’t end as many fans would have expected, it helped demonstrate the merciless and calculating nature of the Samoan Submission Machine.

8. America’s Most Wanted vs.. . Team Canada for the NWA Tag Team Championships (Final Resolution 2005)

At the opening event of the Final Resolution in 2005, America’s Most Wanted’s Chris Harris and James Storm competed against Team Canada’s Bobby Roode and Eric Young with the NWA Tag Team Titles.

Both teams begin the match on the outside of the ring for almost three minutes before action goes to the six sided ring. In the first half of the game, AMW built the momentum as they tossed Roode and Young all over the place and even gave EY a blow on the head, but Eric stepped back behind the umpires so the Canadians could take control of the game.

Team Canada spent much of the game isolating James Storm from his tag team mate, using every dirty job in the book to weaken the Tennessee Cowboy until Storm and Harris headed Team Canada, Scott D’Amore, captured and handcuffed.

While the match felt a bit overbooked towards the end, the action was spectacular from start to finish and a prime example of how great TNA’s tag division was in 2005.

7. Main Event Mafia vs.. . The TNA front for the World Heavyweight Championship (final resolution December 2008)

One of the most decorated and memorable factions in impact wrestling history is arguably The Main Event Mafia; The group, made up of former WWE and WCW world champions, joined in the belief that the young talent in the locker room had absolutely no respect for them and decided to defeat anyone who stood in their way and at the same time To win championship gold.

At the main pay-per-view resolution event in December, Mafia members Kevin Nash, Scott Steiner, Booker T and Sting would compete against AJ Styles, Samoa Joe and Team 3D of the TNA Frontline with Sting’s TNA World Heavyweight Championship line.

This match played to its full potential as the likes of Nash, Steiner and Brother Ray tossed people all over the ring. Styles and Joe, meanwhile, used more flight and submission movements to slow the Mafia down, and even Sting and brother Devon went high risk a few times in that match.

For the last few moments of that eight man day, all hell was going on as every member of the frontline and mafia left in turn before Samoa Joe attempted to hit Sting with the Muscle Buster until Kevin Nash bashed Joe behind back to the referee, which allowed Sting to take the win and keep his title.

After losing to Samoa Joe at Turning Point a month before the Olympic gold medalist, Kurt Angle desperately wanted a rematch, but the Samoan Submission Machine wasn’t in the mood to give Angle another match and instead focused on the NWA World Championship (as this was the main title in the company at the time).

Refusing to take a no for an answer, Angle went on the warpath to attack people from SoCal Val, Don West and even Samoa Joe’s girlfriend before attacking Joe after a tag team match on an episode of Impact. Realizing that the bad blood between the two was still wild, a rematch was scheduled for the final solution. The added catch was that the match will be a 30-minute Iron Man match for a shot at the NWA World Heavyweight Championship.

The action in this match was fast-paced and tough. Both men tried to score some points on the board before the time ran out. Joe would be the first to get some points on the board when he got Angle knocking on the back bare choke, but Kurt would retaliate a few minutes later by getting Samoa Joe to knock on the ankle lock.

When the clock still had minutes, Angle was up 3 points and Samoa Joe was up 2 points, which meant the former X Division Champion really had to put the work into getting Angle to enter.

But just as Kurt was about to run out, time was running out and Kurt Angle became the winner and the new number one contender for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship.

5. Kurt Angle vs.. . Desmond Wolfe in a Three Degree Pain Match (final resolution 2009)

Everyone remembers Kurt Angle’s spectacular match with Desmond Wolfe (Aka Nigel McGuiness) at Turning Point 2009, but some forget that the Angle-Wolfe feud lasted for a month and their next match took it to a whole new level.

After Wolfe lost his match to Angle at the Turning Point, he showed up on Impact and admitted he was bugging, but Angle didn’t hit him because, in Wolfe’s own words, « hitting someone is punishing them mentally and physically « This made possible So that the two can compete in the first » Three Degrees of Pain « , also known as the 2-on-3 fall match, the first match is decided by pinfall, the second by submission and the third, if necessary , from the steel cage.

This match was similar to the previous match at Turning Point, in which Wolfe tried to peel apart the various body parts of the Olympic gold medalist while Angle used his skills as a legitimate wrestling athlete to overpower his more nefarious opponent.

The first fall went to Wolfe and the second to Angle. When it came time for the third and final part of the game, both men were desperate to see how they tried to escape the cage.

Kurt could be seen climbing up the cage wall while Wolfe crawled to the cage door, hoping to escape first. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the case for him as Angle was the first man to step out of the cage and make him the winner of three grades of pain and beating Desmond Wolfe in his own game.

After an impressive three-way match for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship at Turning Point, « The Fallen Angel » Christopher Daniels and « The Phenomenal » AJ Styles continued their rivalry and went into the pay-per-view version next month, final resolution.

Given the fact that both men have been both tag team partners and collaborators for over a decade, it’s not surprising that both men knew each other as well when it came to their move than Daniels did a good part The match spent preventing AJ from performing his soaring maneuvers while aiming for the head, neck, and back.

AJ would get back on his side at some point, but Daniels refused to stay down several times while the fallen angel was on the verge of winning the match until a Styles clash from the second rope secured victory for the phenomenal.

While AJ and Daniels would face each other again three years later at the Final Resolution 2012, it is their match in 2009 for the world title that is arguably more superior.

After controversially winning the NWA world title in his match with Sting at the Genesis pay-per-view, « The Monster » Abyss continued battling the former WCW superstar, but things got more personal than Sting started referring to Abyss by his real name « Chris » and tried to convince him to turn his back on his satanic manager, Father James Mitchell /

To add even more intrigue to this story, « The Instant Classic » Christian Cage claimed he knew a secret regarding Abyss and Father Mitchell that resulted in the monster attacking both Cage and Sting, resulting in one The match at Turning Point led, the Abyss retained its title.

For the pay-per-view (final resolution) that followed, a rematch was held in which the NWA title was again on the line in a three-way eliminator and Tomko (Cage’s bodyguard) was forced into a red one Area to remain penalty area for the duration of the game.

After Abyss refused to choke « The Icon », James Mitchell came out and managed to get Tomko out of the box, causing Cage’s bodyguard to damage Sting until the monster went back to the ring and Tomko attacked before sending him in the box.

With James Mitchell now trapped in the middle of the ring between Abyss and Sting, the Mitchell symbol conveyed the Scorpion Deathlock template, but Abyss would blind Sting by putting his fist into a steel chain Back of the Head Strikes This allowed Christian Cage to capitalize on hitting the Frog Splash and becoming NWA world champion.

Gail Kim and Awesome Kong are considered two of the best female athletes of their generation and have helped figure out what wrestling can do for women, when the opportunity at this match at Final Resolution proves it.

After their previous game at Turning Point ended with a disqualification, Awesome Kong and Gail Kim faced each other again for the Knockouts Championship, but this time in a no-DQ game. Thanks to this additional condition, both women were able to play this match outside the ring as they fought in the crowd and caused even more damage to each other.

This was a classic David vs.. . Goliath Match when Gail tried everything in her arsenal to put away the Awesome One, but Kong used her strength and size to just toss Gail around the ring like she was a rag doll, but Gail refused to give up and she even used a steel chair to defeat their imposing challenger, but Kong couldn’t stay down for long.

Ultimately, it was Kong’s wild and furious temperament that enabled Gail to claim victory in this match, but the fighting continued immediately afterwards before security stepped in to break him.

This fight is often considered to be one of the best knockout games in company history, and it certainly has the right to be considered the most influential as it has helped establish the kind of resiliency and action fans can would be associated with the department for years to come.

1. AJ Styles vs.. . Petey Williams vs.. . Chris Sabin in the ultimate three-way X-Match for the X Division Championship (Final Resolution 2005)

I mentioned in the previous post how Kong and Kim helped define the Knockouts Division thanks to their play at Final Resolution 2008. Three years earlier, it emerged that three of Impact’s top X division representatives had taken part in an Ultimate X for one of the company’s most prestigious titles.

In the 2005 Final Resolution, Petey Williams defended his X Division title against Chris Sabin and AJ Styles in an Ultimate X Match. The best way to describe this match is soaring, risk taking and word everywhere in every way.

In action for this match, Petey Williams hit Chris Sabin with a hurricarana while Sabin was on the shoulders of AJ Styles. Petey tried to climb onto the belt until he was hit by a phenomenal forearm. Sabin sent AJ off the top rope in a hurricarana, AJ is collapsed as he lands on the ring. I mean, this match was really a highlight from start to finish, and the crowd in attendance felt just as if not a single fan in the arena was bored as chants of « TNA » and « This Is Awesome » rang everywhere.

If you’ve ever wondered what makes the X Division so special and highly regarded, do yourself a favor and check out this game.
