President Trump on Tuesday reiterated his call to scrap legal protections for web publishers, after Facebook and Twitter took action on his misleading post comparing COVID-19 to the flu

In a tweet posted shortly after noon on Tuesday, Trump wrote “Repeal section 230 !!!” in capitals, in reference to the law that protects websites against legal action regarding their content
moderation policies

This tweet came shortly after Facebook deleted its previous post which incorrectly described COVID-19 as « much less fatal » than the flu

« Lots of people
every year sometimes more than 100,000, and despite the vaccine, die of the flu, « Trump wrote in the original » Are we going to shut down our country?  » No we have learned to live with it

A Facebook spokesperson said: « We are removing incorrect information from
severity of COVID-19, and have now deleted this message «

complaints about remedies, treatment, availability of essential services or the location and severity of the outbreak « 

Twitter allowed the post to stay, but placed it behind the following warning: « This Tweet has broken Twitter rules regarding
disseminating misleading and potentially harmful information related to COVID-19 However, Twitter has determined that it may be in the public interest for the Tweet to remain
accessible «
