December (ANI / Sputnik): U.S. Justice Department officials and Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou are currently negotiating a possible plea deal that would allow her to return to China from Canada, the Wall Street Journal told People who are familiar with the situation. Thursday’s report said that in return for her trip home, Meng would have to admit misconduct in her criminal case related to alleged violations of US sanctions against Iran on behalf of Huawei. She is facing charges of wire and bank fraud. According to the report, US prosecutors could, according to sources, drop charges against Meng if she cooperates in the case. So far, however, Meng has refused to cooperate, claiming she is innocent.
According to the report, Meng declined to comment through her Huawei spokesman. The Justice Department also declined to comment, the report added. Meng is wanted by US authorities for her alleged role in violating sanctions against Iran. The U.S. Department of Justice claims Meng committed financial violations by misleading multinational financial conglomerate HSBC into approving transactions of more than $ 100 million that violated U.S. sanctions on Iran from 2010 to 2014.
