Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) announced an outbreak of COVID-19 in a unit at Lions Gate Hospital in north Vancouver on Friday.
The health authority said an undisclosed number of patients within a unit tested positive for the virus.
A neighboring unit was also monitored more carefully out of caution.
VCH announced that patients in the affected units and their family members are currently being notified.
Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, Lions Gate Hospital is temporarily moving into Phase 2 of the surgical surge plan. That means the hospital will prioritize urgent and upcoming surgeries and continue cases from daycare.
The health authority says that patients who may be affected by the move will be contacted directly.
An outbreak on two floors of North Vancouver hospital in the spring infected 16 people, nine of whom died.
