The Spanish veteran will begin their second consecutive WRC tournament in the tarmac-based event centered around the famous Italian Grand Prix circuit on December 3-6.

This comes on the heels of Sordo’s last victory in Rally Italia Sardinia, which marked his second appearance in the season after appearing in Rally Mexico in March.

Sordo is a veteran of the Rally Monza, a late addition to this year’s WRC schedule affected by COVID-19, having won the event in 2010 and 2013 at the Citroen DS3 wheel. Recently, he competed in the event for current employer Hyundai (pictured below in 2016).

Sordo will be tasked with helping Hyundai defend its slender seven-point advantage over Toyota in the manufacturers’ ranking before the final round.

The two Korean full-season drivers, Thierry Nouvel and Utanak, are still in the theoretical competition for the drivers’ award, trailing Toyota driver Elvin Evans by 24 points and 28 points respectively with just 30 showing in Monza.. .

The Craig Breen was ready for its third 2020 debut in the Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC at Rally Ypres, until the event became the latest to be canceled amid the global health crisis.
