Many Legion affiliates are looking forward to live broadcasts and virtual celebrations amid COVID-19

All Royal Canadian Legion branches across BJ who have managed to remain open during the pandemic are working hard to honor those who have served, while adhering to the restrictions and guidelines for COVID-19

Norm Scott, head of the Greater Victoria’s Langford branch, told Black Press Media that the branch was able to reopen in June after temporarily closing it during the height of the epidemic.

Scott said, « There will be a small corps service based on the Memorial Day protocol in the name of our fallen soldiers, past and present. »

Branch 91 has been around since 1937, although not necessarily where it is now located The branch has moved twice, and is now on Station Ave – a site that will unfortunately close on Memorial Day, due to everyone’s safety

« I prefer not to risk and chance something will happen and endanger the Legion, » Scott said

Almost all Memorial Day celebrations will be held, with each legion holding a maximum of 50 people, for those who choose to stay open

Osoyoos Legion, Branch 173, was funded mostly by K. Knudtson in 1946 The Legion spent its 74-year history on 78th Street Lyle Kent is their boss

“Our Memorial Day celebration on November 11, it will be very small,” Kent said, “We will not use any outside facilities because we will not be able to guarantee a gathering of 50 people only”

The Osoyoos Corps will require members or the general public to log in with their name and phone number. Staff will use this to keep track of the number of people in the building. Once it reaches the ceiling of 50, the branch will have to start turning people away

Many aspects will look a little different on this year’s Memorial Day without handing over poppy students. Corps are left to obtain poppy money through local companies, which put in counter funds

Bob Underhill, Second Vice President of The Royal Canadian Legion for the BC and Yukon Command, he is the head of Sun B.Biggest Celebrations – Vancouver’s Memorial Day Committee for Victory Square

“Poppy funds are kept in trust, and poppy boxes collected in the area help veterans in those areas,” said Underhill, “The Corps cannot use it for anything other than assistance. This is important because a lot of people don’t understand. That is, we are very strict about where the money can be used. «

This year, like most of Legion’s 1,350 different outlets across the country, the Vancouver party will not have a typical crowd, and instead allow virtual access through live broadcast and broadcast

To adhere to the COVID-19 guidelines, several legionaries decided to lay wreaths themselves this year, spaced out.

To encourage social distancing, Kent said the members of the Osoyoos would take every wreath to place at the local memorial before the celebration began. Victoria Legion decided to do the same.

If people still want to put their wreath, they are welcome to do so as long as it’s outside the usual time at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day, Kent said.

“I turned on the TV for 11 in the morning, November 11 and watched the ceremony, and remembered as we all wanted.”

Additionally, Canada’s Department of Veterans Affairs has suggested a number of physical ways of remembering this year, including:

A forthcoming proposal pays the council to end 24/7 camping, all of whom live in uninhabited homes

« I Am Greta », which appeared Friday in Hulu, is the first documentary film to chart the rise of Thunberg’s meteorite

Memorial Day research shows that Canadians know more about European battles in World War II than they do near home attacks.
