It seemed like the chargers were doing their due diligence when they asked Rams defensive coordinator Brandon Staley for a second interview for her position as head coach on Sunday.
The personal meeting with the chargers was not the start of a second round of interviews. He was the first choice of chargers all along and they didn’t allow him to leave the building without a new job.
According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Chargers hired Staley as their head coach. The 38-year-old Staley made the Rams defense arguably the best unit in the NFL this season. Staley and the Rams lost in the divisional round to the Green Bay Packers.
Now Staley will move from Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey to Joey Bosa and Derwin James from the Chargers.
« Obviously, if you lose him, it will be a big loss for the Rams, » Rams coach Sean McVay said ahead of reports on Staley be a prime contender for many of these openings right now and you will see the value of those opportunities . »
Ramsey also expected Staley to get a job as head coach: « I think he’s great at what he does. He’s smart, he knows (how) he can get his players into positions for games making and influencing games. He knows how to get the best out of people, he knows how to calm people down and keep us going during games. »
