Amy Shark covered Fall Out Boy’s 2005 hit « Sugar, We’re Goin Down » for Triple J’s Like A Version segment this morning.
The singer-songwriter softened the distorted guitars of the emo original and performed with acoustic guitar, cello and piano. Billy Davis plays keyboard on the version, and in a post-performance interview Shark mentioned that he arranged the cover.
It was also Shark’s third Like A version after she « Be Alright » Dean Lewis in 2019 and in 2017 Silverchairs performed » Miss You Love ».
“It reminds me of a fun time in my life, a huge group of friends in an emo and pop punk phase. So much drama was going on at that time, « she explained.
» [Fall Out Boy] was really good songwriting. I didn’t know at the time that it attracted my ear, I thought it was just punk music. «
Fall Out Boy even praised Shark for playing the song and wrote on Twitter that she » drops hearts out here and breaks names in the best possible way « .
As is typical of the segment , Shark also played an original – her latest single, Baby Steps, out today. Check it out below.
Shark will release her second studio album, Cry Forever, on April 30th, which will singles « Love Songs. » Includes Ain’t For Us « with Keith Urban, » Everybody Rise, « » All The Lies About Me « and » C’MON « . With Travis Barker.
