The emergency department was put into action immediately, but it turned out that it was not needed.
« The chimpanzee is safe and sound and is being monitored by our specialist’s zookeepers and vets, » said the Taronga Zoo in a statement.
The zoo said it had strict security protocols for such an incident, which were activated immediately.
Everyone on site was instructed to enter safe areas until they could confirm the chimpanzee was back in the enclosure.
« The zoo will remain open today, but Taronga’s chimpanzee troop will remain out of service until a full investigation is completed, » said Taronga Zoo.
