It was a strange game on a strange day, an often ragged NBA competition between opponents of the Pacific Division that lost some of its meaning before even giving a tip after breaking on Wednesday after chaotic events in the U.S. American Capitol had taken place.

And Paul George was back in the line-up too after missing the Staples Center loss to San Antonio on Tuesday with a sore right ankle that he tweaked during a win in Phoenix on Sunday.
« It was a tough game tonight, » Lue admitted afterwards. « Just Kawhi’s first duel in a while, PG missed the last game and played tonight so he was a little rusty and greeted Marcus tonight who was really good in the first half. I’m just trying to play with different lineups and find out. »
The Clippers valued all of their contributions in a tight competition – consistently closer than any of the team’s other games this season when they hadn’t played a game that a team didn’t run by at least 20.
Leonard and George both finished with 21 points in a game in which the teams opened a combined 3:19 from the 3-point range in the first quarter and in which neither side had more than 12 points.
On the track, the Warriors battled control with an 18-2 run that gave them an 89:83 lead, but the Clippers retaliated with a 10-2 boost from two consecutive buckets of Leonard, who followed a patented foul-line jumper with a floater that got it to play 93-91 at 6:03.
And then, in the final minutes, the Clippers kick put the game out of reach: They got three consecutive clutch 3-pointers – one from Patrick Beverley (seven points, three assists) 4:14, then two von Batum (13 points) on consecutive possessions – to build a 106-97 lead by 2:58.
Serge Ibaka had 12 points and 14 rebounds for his first double-double as a clipper, but Kerr’s roster has managed to slow Williams down for what it’s worth: the star sub that Golden State sang so many times finished with three points on 1- for-4 shooting and three assists.
And the Clippers had a solution for Steph Curry, who finished with 13 points, shooting 5 for 17 from the field and 1 for 6 from the depths. The two-time league MVP had 92 goals in their last two games, including his career high of 62 against Portland on Sunday.
« Our philosophy is to eliminate the best player, » said Lue, noting that Eric Paschall and Andrew Wiggins both played well, scoring 19 points each. « Other than that, other guys will have good games. »
