The Coachella and Stagecoach music festivals were canceled again on Friday due to concerns about the spread of the coronavirus.

The massively popular music festivals in Indio, California, were due to resume from April 9th, but the top health official of the Riverside County said the pandemic was too out of control to hold the events attended by thousands of people from around the world.

Because of the pandemic, Health Officer Dr. Cameron Kaiser today (Jan. 29) passed a public health ordinance canceling the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Stagecoach Country Music festivals scheduled for April 2021. We look forward to the return of the events.

« This Order recognizes that both the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and the Stagecoach Music Festival are music concerts and gatherings of international proportions, attracting hundreds of thousands of participants from many countries, including some that are disproportionately affected by the global COVID-19 pandemic.  » the health order states. « This arrangement is designed to reduce the likelihood of exposure to COVID-19 and thereby slow the spread of COVID-19 in communities around the world. »

Hopes that the festivals could be postponed for the fall have also been dashed, since the pandemic could pick up again in cooler temperatures.

« If COVID-19 were detected at these festivals, the size, number of attendees and the type of venue would make it impossible, if not impossible, to track down those who may be at risk « adds the Health Ordinance.

Goldenvoice, which hosts the festivals, didn’t immediately comment on the decision – but after the county canceled the events in 2020, the company said, » We have every intention of the year To return in 2021. «

It is not clear what will happen to ticket holders who have renewed their passports for this year.
