World news – Coastal hospital treating eight people with COVID-19


Eight people with overseas acquired cases of COVID-19 are currently being treated at Sunshine Coast University Hospital, Queensland Health has confirmed.

The department said Bokarina Hospital provided assistance as part of a nationwide approach to COVID-19 by accepting and servicing foreign-acquired hotel quarantine cases.

The department said there were no locally acquired cases at the hospital or in the Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service area.

The eight active cases mean the region has had a total of 109 cases so far, of which 103 were fully cured. There has been a death.

The region had five active cases on March 14 after two people were flown in from the far north of the state for treatment.

The department did not state whether the eight active cases included some of the original five cases that were active on March 14.

The department didn’t say when the new cases were discovered or taken to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital.

To date, Queensland Health has had 1,466 cases of COVID-19, of which 78 are active.
