World news – Cocaine packages found on Queensland Beach

Ten packets of suspicious white powder believed to be cocaine washed up on an island in the far north of Queensland.

Hikers found the packs, each weighing one kilogram on Sunday on a beach in Ramsay Bay, Hinchinbrook Island.

Acting Senior Sergeant Graham Camp says there may be more packages washed up in the area in the coming days.

« We urge the public to come forward to contact the police if they find more packages and not to open them because the substance could be dangerous, « he said in a statement on Thursday.

» Anyone at sea or on the coast nearby has been to those places and has seen suspicious things in the water or other suspicious activity, please contact the police, « said Sgt Camp.
