An anti-masker who believed the COVID-19 crisis was just a « political » stunt appealed emotionally to skeptics from his hospital bed – after he was seriously ill with the virus.
In a Facebook video , shared by a buddy on Monday, Chuck Stacey gasps as he admits he was wrong about the pandemic that has killed 1.8 million people worldwide.
« I didn’t wear a mask. I should. I didn’t, » says Stacey with oxygen tubes in his nose. “I believed that this was just the flu, that everything was going to go away, that it was political. I didn’t think a mask would help. «
He struggles as he continues: » You don’t want to end up like me. I am having trouble breathing. I may need to be intubated if I feel worse. «
Stacey’s eyes go high as he asks skeptics to change their minds and protect themselves and their families.
» When wearing a mask your chances of achieving this decrease by as much as 5 percent can, just wear a mask, « he says. “Do it for your children, your loved ones. Do it for yourself. «
» I have to say, I was dealing with the masks employees have to wear, « he wrote on Facebook. » This is just another example of the persistent overreaction to this one Situation. Please stop so we can enjoy our meals while we eat without feeling sorry for the staff. «
Stacey told Storyful that he decided to wear a face mask because he suffered from claustrophobia.
« My doctor came up with the idea of a face shield with social distancing, responsibility for hand sanitizer, and minimizing my on-site contact. I own an IT company so I can work from home. It worked for almost a year, » explained he.
« Nothing is 100% infected with this virus, and even if I had been wearing a mask I could still have got it. The fact is, however, that we must do everything we can to protect ourselves and the people who are really at risk. I just thank God that I didn’t give this to anyone or take my life. I wouldn’t be able to handle that. «
In an update on Monday, Stacey suggested that he made death threats to go public about his COVID-19 battle.
» I was wrong, couldn’t be more wrong. But to wish me death? To say I don’t deserve to be treated? What’s wrong with you people, we should love each other, pray for one another, « he said in the video. » I pray for you all. I pray you don’t understand «
