Twenty-year-old Daunte Wright was shot dead by police while he was reportedly getting back in his car and driving to Brooklyn Center, northwest of Minneapolis. His relatives said Daunte was shot after he was stopped for putting an air freshener off his rearview mirror in his mother’s car.
Moments after the incident, a crowd slowly gathered around the scene (the Intersection of 63rd Avenue North and Lee Avenue North), which incidentally is also very close to the area where George Floyd died last year. A large crowd of demonstrators took to the streets on Sunday evening and clashed with the police in front of the precinct. Police had to use tear gas and lightning grenades to convince protesters to clear the area, the Daily Mail reports. Some people took advantage of the chaos around them and ransacked the nearby malls, as well as the Walmart and Nike stores.

The internet started beating up the people who ransacked the stores amid protests against Daunte Wright’s death. Many users pointed out that the individuals involved in the looting and vandalism may not even be part of the BLM thing, or even know the name of the victim who died in the shooting.
