David Fletcher threw a bloop single – his specialty – into midfield in the 11th inning and drove the groundbreaking runs in the Angels 7-5 win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday night in Dunedin, Florida.

The Blue Jays are playing their home games at their spring training stadium earlier in the season due to COVID-19 travel restrictions between the US and Canada.

The teams could not drive in second place in second base. On the 11th, the Angels had runners in second and third place when Fletcher hit the plate, and he gave a small bang in the middle, good enough to run in both runs. It was his second goal that game, including a brace in the second.

The closer Raisel Iglesias then handled the Blue Jays in the lower part of the inning, knocking out all three players to secure the Angels’ fifth win in their first seven games.

Mike Trout arrived for the third time in a row, an explosion 444 feet above the left field fence. He doubled up and scored and hit an infield single.

Forelle had a chance to finish ninth in the starting run, but midfielder Randal Grichuk robbed him of a dive.

Trout was then placed in second place to start 10th and end the inning stranded in third place. Anthony Rendon, Jared Walsh and Justin Upton failed to score the goal that could have knocked in the starting gun.

Right-handed Junior Guerra escaped the bottom of the inning to send the game to the 11th.

Long before the end of the game, Griffin Canning left the hill after an encouraging start that was marred by a couple of home runs.

Canning gave up three runs in the first run, including a two-run homer from Vladimir Guerrero Jr. In the sixth, he also gave up a solo homer to Cavan Biggio.

Between these homers, Canning withdrew all 14 thugs, including six with strikers.

Canning threw 81 pitches, 49 of which were sliders. The Blue Jays missed 12 of the 23 times they had offered on his slider.

Canning went 4-4 and the Blue Jays took a 5-4 lead against Guerrero’s RBI single against Aaron Slegers.

The angels tied it in the seventh on a Shohei Ohtani single in the right field.
