The last date for linking the Permanent Account Number (PAN) to Aadhaar is tomorrow, March 31st, 2021, otherwise the PAN card will likely expire. If there is no link, a fine of Rs 1,000 may also have to be paid as per the 2021 financial bill. If you have not yet linked your PAN card to the Aadhaar number, you can do this by tomorrow. Last week the government passed the Finance Bill 2021 which added a new section – « 234H ». According to this section, a person will have to pay a late fee of up to Rs 1,000 if the PAN number is not linked to Aadhaar.
The Aadhaar number can easily be linked to the PAN card online as the Department of Income tax (IT) allows users to link the two identification numbers using a simple tool on their website. In order to complete income tax-related tasks like filing income statements, it is mandatory to link the Aadhaar number to PAN. Also known as the Unique Identity Number (UID), the Aadhaar is a 12-digit number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India or UIDAI. The PAN is a 10-digit alphanumeric number that is assigned by the income tax department itself.
