World news – « Don’t get caught »: Qld prepares for Victoria Fallout

Health Secretary Yvette D’Ath said officials in Victoria had still determined the variant of the most recent case in the Garden State.

Queensland has not registered any new COVID cases in the past 24 hours after thousands of tests.

It came when Ms. D’Ath announced that the Hotel Grand Chancellor Cluster – which triggered a lockdown in Brisbane – was over.

She said she thinks two of the cases are most likely a sustained shedding of the virus while the third case is a woman who likely returned a false positive.

Dr. Young said she was looking at the infection period of the most recent case in Victoria from Jan. 29. This case has prompted Victoria to reintroduce strict measures, including wearing masks and other restrictions.

Anyone who has visited a place that the Victorian man has also visited will be asked to report for testing and be quarantined for 14 days.

Anyone else who has been in Greater Melbourne since Jan. 29 will also be asked to come forward for testing and isolate until the result comes back.

Elderly care facilities, disabled accommodation facilities and hospitals are not allowed to accept anyone who has been in the greater Melbourne area since January 29, unless it is an end of life visit.

« We have to see what happens in the next 24 to 48 hours, » said Dr. Young and urged the Queenslanders to reconsider their trip to Victoria.

She warned that visitors from the Sunshine State could be « caught » and quarantined if the situation in Victoria worsened.
