In Ethiopia, the International Medical Corps completed 7,600 consultations and reached 14,000 people with awareness campaigns through our mobile health and nutrition clinics in Humera, Wolkayit and Tsegede woredas.

In Sudan we have 7,220 people in the last three months achieved with hygiene promotion and COVID-19 prevention services.

The conflict between the Ethiopian National Defense Force and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front continues, leading to massive humanitarian needs in both Ethiopia and Sudan. The struggle continues and is the northernmost region of Ethiopia, resulting in continued internal displacement. This week there were reports of large evictions in West Tigray towards the city of Shire, where approximately 45,000 newly displaced persons have been registered, with more than 1,500 arrivals per day. The displaced report dire conditions and abuses in the places they fled and say some remain stranded in their original area due to lack of transportation. The basic service remains interrupted, which means that more than 4.5 million people have been without electricity and communication for more than four months. Although access has increased and aid reaches the entire region, many areas remain inaccessible. Still, the US Agency for International Development (USAID) recently deployed a Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) to respond to the growing humanitarian needs in the region.

So far, nearly 62,000 refugees have been at the border crossings along the border registered between Sudan and Ethiopia. Humanitarian relief efforts are focused on filling the existing service delivery gap in reception facilities, particularly in the recently established Tunaydbah camp. There has been an increase in cases of watery diarrhea in Um Rakuba camp due to a lack of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services. The partners also highlight the increasing prevalence of acute malnutrition at all locations. All partners are working to fill service delivery gaps and expand humanitarian aid to populations in need.
