World news – Expect a miracle! ORU stuns Ohio State in NCAA tournament, 1st tournament win since 1974

In an amazing surprise, the ORU Golden Eagles defeated the runner-up Ohio State Buckeyes in the first round of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament (75-72).

This is ORU’s first tournament appearance since 2008 and their first tournament win since 1974.

Oral Roberts was only the ninth number 15 to ever beat a number 2 in an NCAA tournament game when the Eagles shocked Ohio State 75-72 for the program’s first big dance win since 1974. Max Abmas came out on top as the nation’s top scorer, scoring 29 points for ORU, who will play number 7 in a second round game against Florida on Sunday.

The game went into extra time, but Abmas and his teammate Kevin Obanor helped dominate overtime despite never resting in the 45 minutes of play. Obanor finished the game with 30 points when he and Abmas together scored all but 16 Oral Roberts points.

It’s the first time since 2016 that a # 15 seed has defeated a # 2 seed, though the outcome has become more frequent over the past decade. It has happened five times in the last nine NCAA tournaments since 2012, with Middle Tennessee’s victory over the state of Michigan in 2016 being the last.
