With the 33rd selection in the 2020 NHL Draft, the Ottawa Senators proudly choose Roby Järventie
After trading the 52nd pick this morning for the acquisition of Matt Murray, the number 33 pick has become even more crucial for the Senators With still a lot of talent, the Sens have chosen Finnish winger Roby Järventie
Järventie is described as a powerful forward who can use his size to protect the puck and reach the net He played in Mestis – Finland’s second-highest men’s league At 6’2 ”he should be one of the top 6 forwards with strong attacking abilities
Järventie anticipates playing well in the offensive zone He scores a lot by having a sense of the puck’s next step He can perform some pretty impressive moves while playing at full speed and consistently displays good habits keeping the puck close to its frame
Järventie finished his first regular season at Mestis, the second highest men’s level in Finland It was an extremely successful rookie season for the 17-year-old as he scored 23 goals and 38 points in 36 games He averaged 15 minutes of ice time, including about two minutes on the power play Järventie has been a well-known prospect in Finland for a few years as he has always been one of the best players of his age group in Finland.
Järventie is a modern forward who uses his large size to protect the puck and move towards the net with the puck on his stick But he doesn’t play a very physical brand of hockey He’s a scoring winger with excellent decent shooting and playing skills, but he’s a bit of a one-dimensional threat, which is why he plans to become a complementary scorer rather than someone leading the offense himself
More to come on this exciting new prospect but, for now, welcome to the Senators, Roby!
