For the first time in 220 years, America will not see a peaceful transfer of power as hordes of Trump supporters who became terrorists battled police officers and broke into the nation’s Capitol on Wednesday afternoon. Almost every politician took to Twitter to condemn the violence, including those who literally inspired these lunatics.
Many Florida Republicans have either joined unsubstantiated legal proceedings days earlier to dismiss the election results or selfishly announced that they would vote against confirming Joe Biden’s victory for no other reason than to give points to Trump’s troubled base achieve. Today they were among those politicians who urged the masses of QAnon supporters, white supremacists and other right-wing extremist fringe groups not to tear apart any federal buildings.
In particular, there was Senator Rick Scott, who said earlier today that he would « probably » not confirm the election results, despite Mitch McConnell saying so. « Thank you to the Capitol Police officers who protect us and our institutions every day, » tweeted Scott. “And thanks to all law enforcement agencies who work to keep people safe in DC. Everyone has the right to protest peacefully. Nobody has the right to commit violence. What happened in the Capitol today is shameful and un-American. This is not what our country stands for. »
Then there is Rep. Byron Donalds, a Republican from Naples, who announced that one of his first acts as a US Congressman would be to vote against the confirmation of the election results. He tweeted, “Americans have the right to peacefully protest against & and demand their government work for them – that doesn’t mean we resort to violence. The rule of law must exist during our country’s brightest & hours. We’re better than that. There’s no place for anarchy. »
Similarly, we have Rep. Brian Mast, a Republican from Stuart, who said three days ago that he would approve the election results for apparently no reason other than defiance. He tweeted, “Attack on our Capitol and the selfless police officers who are defending it is as unpatriotic and appalling as it gets. The people who are doing this have to stop so we can get back to our democratic process! »
Other moronic Florida politicians who checked out on Twitter today to distance themselves from their own burning outbuilding include Mario Diaz-Balart, Matt Gaetz (who just retweeted Trump), Kat Cammack, Neal Dunn and Michael Waltz.
Over the past month, each of these politicians has pointed out that the 2020 election was stolen despite there was no evidence and requests from their own party to stop before someone is injured or killed.
And now there’s a photo of a deranged QAnon shaman standing on the podium in the Senate Chamber, which is arguably the most apt image for the modern Republican party.
