The Iowa Hawkeyes basketball program mourns this weekend when Michael Reaves, who played for Iowa from 1985 to 1988, passed away on Saturday. He was 54 years old.

Reaves was a four year old letterman who played for the Hawkeyes Guard and was part of one of the best four year runs in program history. Reaves played for George Raveling and Tom Davis and celebrated 95 wins in Iowa. That’s good for the second most out of four years in team history.

In 1987 Reaves and the Hawkeyes reached Elite Eight for the first time since 1980. They haven’t reached this stage of the NCAA tournament since.

As a senior in that 1987/88 season, Reaves showed his skills as a three-point shooter, setting a school record of 47.5 percent of his three. That year, Iowa hit the Sweet 16. Iowa released an official statement on the death of Michael Reaves and also delivered a tribute video to him:
