Full Gear marked the final AEW pay-per-view of calendar year 2020, and it certainly didn’t disappoint The AEW Championship was on the line as Jon Moxley defended his title against Eddie Kingston in a brutal  » I Quit Match « Kingston literally threw everything but the kitchen sink in Moxley, including bedbugs, rubbing alcohol and barbed wire Moxley certainly showed his vicious side by using a piece of barbed wire to helping his patented bulldog and Kingston finally uttered the words « I quit » Now Moxley will move on to face Kenny Omega, who became the No. 1 candidate following his victory over « Hangman » Adam Page in the AEW tournament final World Championship Eliminator

Arguably one of the best games in quite some time has seen FTR defend their AEW Tag Team Championship against the Young Bucks Coming into the game, the Young Bucks put a lot of pressure on themselves and said they weren’t will never fight for the AEW titles again if they lose to FTR This game featured constant action and a pair of injury stories with Dax Harwood having an injured hand Matt Jackson facing a leg injury It was close half an hour of absolute mayhem, and it culminated with Matt Jackson hitting a superkick to win the tag team titles for the Young Bucks for the first time in AEW.

Another match with big ramifications was MJF versus Chris Jericho If MJF could walk away with a win he would be allowed to join the inner circle The match itself definitely had its moments, but the storytelling at the end was phenomenal MJF attempted to nail Jericho with the « Dynamite Diamond Ring », which Wardlow brought into the ring However, Jake Hager interfered and threw Jericho his baseball bat, « Floyd » As the referee was distracted, MJF said acted as if Jericho hit him with the bat and fell to the canvas Jericho pleaded his case to the referee, and as he did so MJF rolled Jericho (with a handful of tights) and scored the fallen After the match, Jericho kept his promise and said MJF and Wardlow could join the inner circle

Read below for detailed game recaps and ratings from AEW Full Gear on Saturday night

NWA Women’s World Championship – Serena Deeb (c) vs Allysin Kay: Deeb took over with a technical wrestling clinic following the opening bell After Kay had a host of kicks on Deeb in the corner, Deeb was able to grab Kay with his head between the ropes and hooked up with a brutal neckbreaker Kay was able to turn the tide and started to focus on Deeb’s neck with several crosses Kay followed this up with an Alabama Slam which resulted in a long two-count However, Deeb came out of the ring after Kay hit an AK-47, which is one of Kay’s signature moves Kay went out to look for Deeb on the outside and when the two attempted to get back into the ring, Deeb was able to gain control via a dragon screw in the ropes Deeb attempted to pin Kay down, but Kay put his leg on the bottom rope Seconds later Deeb pulled Kay into the center of the ring and locked himself in the Serenity Lock to win the match After the match was concluded, Thunder Rosa came out and had a few words for Deeb before leaving the ring Serena Deeb def Allysin Kay via submission to retain the Grade: C title

AEW World Title Eliminator Tournament Final – Kenny Omega vs. « Hangman » Adam Page: Omega and Page came out very physically at the start of the match Page got the upper hand at the start by hitting Omega with a big boot followed by a slam Fall Page produced the first fall close to the match after hitting a middle rope superplex on Omega Omega was able to turn the tide of the match when he jumped on the guardrail outside the ring as a result of an Irish whip from Page Omega managed to pull Page off with a flip and took control when the action returned inside the ring. There were several moments throughout the match where Omega and Page knew what the Another was going to do Omega attempted to go for the one-wing angel, but Page countered the move and attempted to prepare Omega for his own one-wing angel before Omega walked away. The two made their way to the entrance ramp where Page hit a thundering pop-up electric bomb Page brought Omega back to the ring and got a long two-count before Omega was kicked out shortly after the wave. attack from Page, Omega hit a huge move of his own when he hooked up with a ’98 Tiger Driver in which Page barely kicked out to two Page ended up reciprocating in terms of near-drop when he hit Dead Eye for a long time in two steps Page opted for the Buckshot Lariat, but Omega saw it coming Omega was able to hit V-Triggers back to back Omega then followed that offensive assault with an angel at one wing to achieve victory

This match was an absolute war from start to finish, and certainly didn’t disappoint. From a booking standpoint, it makes sense that Omega took the win after transforming into “The Cleaner”. is very possible we will get an Omega / Jon Moxley rematch assuming Moxley beats Eddie Kingston later tonight Kenny Omega def Page Adam « Hangman » via pinfall Note: A

Orange Cassidy vs. John « 4 » Silver: One of the most interesting moments in the match was early on when Silver tore the pockets of Cassidy Silver’s pants took control and ended up throwing Cassidy on the ring several times Silver certainly took his time demonstrating throughout the match and made sure the crowd knew he was in firm control Silver also showed her power during the match with a thunderous Irish whip Cassidy was finally able to change her fortunes when Silver opted for one of too many Irish whips Cassidy hit a cross and followed her with a DDT tornado Shortly after, Cassidy hit an impressive Michinoku pilot and nearly fell The two countered at one point in the match and Silver ended up hitting a Spin Doctor to get a long count of two Silver was looking for Brodie Lee’s discus clothesline , leader of the Dark Order, but instead Cassidy dodged and hit the orange punch He followed up with a Beach Break to give the three count It certainly wasn’t a surprise to see Cassidy come away with the win After all, he had a losing streak with two losses to Cody in these TNT Championship games. last time He’s getting back on track here at Full Gear Orange Cassidy def John Silver via pinfall Note: A

AEW TNT Championship – Cody Rhodes (c) vs Darby Allin: Before the match started, ring announcer Justin Roberts called Cody “Cody Rhodes” for the first time on AEW This comes after WWE has canceled trademarks for the name « Cody Rhodes » earlier this week Allin certainly got off to a good start and forced Rhodes out of the ring twice within minutes of the opening bell Rhodes was finally able to gain control when he threw Allin down the entry ramp after the two were tied in a hammer-locked position He anchored Allin on several occasions throughout the match with submission holds, but the tide turned when Allin pulled away from a Rhodes moonsault Moments later the tensioner pad came off the middle string and Rhodes face bounced off it Allin had a long double count before Rhodes was sent off Rhodes and Allin found themselves on the top string a few moments later and Rhodes hit an Avalanche Cross Rhodes on the top rope He went for the pin, but Allin’s arm was under the rope to stop the pinball machine Rhodes continued to scoop slamming Allin while trying to put the sidelined challenger Rhodes even grabbed his American belt and Allin used it to trip Rhodes in order to pin the champion Rhodes barely kicked out of the pinning suit A few minutes later Allin was able to log into the Coffin Drop from the top rope, but Rhodes kicked out at the last possible second After the two swapped pin combinations, Allin took over and pinned Rhodes to win the match

After Rhodes congratulated Allin, Taz came out and distracted Rhodes and Allin at the microphone as Brian Cage and Ricky Starks both attacked from behind Cage and Starks attempted to close Allin’s arm in the door of the car Allin arrived in, but Will Hobbs appeared with a steel chair at the last minute to make the stop This match had some thrilling moments throughout and Allin showed his fearless demeanor Considering Rhodes won their previous encounters it made a lot of sense to place the TNT Championship on a young star like Allin Darby Allin def Cody Rhodes via Pinfall to win the title Note: B

AEW Women’s Championship – Hikaru Shida (c) vs Nyla Rose: Shida walked out the door with a flurry of offense as she tried to stun Rose at the start The champion hit a knee as Rose was lying on the ring apron to continue his offensive attack With Shida at the helm, Rose’s manager Vickie Guerrero grabbed a kendo stick and hit Shida directly on the knee to give Rose the upper hand Rose started to focus on Shida’s injured knee and twisted it on the steel frame of the ring Rose followed this by slamming Shida’s leg onto the ring post Rose attempted to hit Shida, but Shida pulled away Moments later, Rose found herself perched on the top rope but Shida was able to kick that kicked Rose on the outside Shida hit a missile dropkick inside the ring but only got a double count Rose ended up gaining control a bit later and nailed an electric bomb on Shida The champion then hit a knee in running, then placed Rose on the top string Shida hit an avalanche hawk arrow from the top string and attempted to pin Rose before pulling her off the web Shida straightened up and stepped out of the front ropes that Guerrero grabbed Shida’s leg While Shida and Rose were outside the ring, Shida pushed Rose into Guerrero Shida finally brought Rose back into the ring while Guerrero was knocked down Shida kicked Tamashii on Rose but couldn’t get full cover at the start However, Shida hit a second Tamashii and won the three-count This match had its good moments of action, but the result was not expected Since Shida holds the title for a while time and Rose aligned with Guerrero, it was surprising to see Shida retain the title It will certainly be interesting to see who Shida then fights with Hikaru Shida def Nyla Rose via Pinfall to retain the Grade: C title

AEW Tag Team Championship – FTR (c) vs Young Bucks: Matt Jackson’s injured leg got a lot of emphasis at the start However, that didn’t stop him from making several dropkicks in the opening minutes of the game Dax Harwood attempted to hit Matt with a thunderous right hand on the outside, but Jackson pulled away and Harwood blew his hand off the ring post After Harwood’s miss, the Young Bucks focused on Harwood’s hands and even repeatedly punched him in the corner Finally, Harwood was able to regain control after throwing Matt from the lower rope Harwood ended up getting his hand wrapped in the middle of the match Once Harwood returned to the ring he returned to focus on Matt’s injured leg as FTR tagged frequently As Harwood and Matt Jackson attended to of their injuries, Jackson executed a small bundle and Harwood barely kicked out at two FTR spent the majority of the match isolating Matt due to his injury Finally, Nick Jackson got the hot tag and moved around the ring like a possessed man Nick executed several kicks at FTR and took control of the match Matt did a blind tag and the Young Bucks were able to almost fall on a huge kick to Wheeler’s face from Matt Jackson FTR responded with a tandem bulldog on the top rope and Wheeler went and kicked Nick off the Harwood apron only had two accounts on the quick cover The Young Bucks regained their momentum when they hit Twist of Fate and Swanton Bomb to take a page from Hardy Boyz’s book With Nick Jackson and Wheeler laid out outside the ring , Matt Jackson put Harwood in a sniper Nick ended up putting Wheeler in a sniper on the entry ramp Matt Jackson’s leg finally gave out due to his injury Nick Jackson hit a knee in hike on Harwood in the corner th The Young Bucks followed him with a trigger BTE Wheeler came out of nowhere to interrupt the fall attempt, however FTR managed to hit the Mind Breaker Spike piledriver suit, but Matt Jackson put his leg on the rope of the down to break the fall FTR got furious and took Matt’s boot off his leg for maximum damage. With Matt nearly knocked out, Wheeler opted to attempt a 450 splash but missed Matt was able to get up and log on a superkick to win the match

It was one of the best tag team games in quite some time Both teams absolutely put the caution to the wind and showed which teams have influenced them over the years with a wide range of tandem moves It’s not a huge surprise to see the Young Bucks win the titles Considering the stipulation to no longer contest for the titles if they lose, this was the one the Young Bucks didn’t lose Young Bucks def FTR via pinfall to win the titles Note: A

Matt Hardy vs. Sammy Guevara (Elite Deletion Match): The match started with Guevara arriving at the Hardy Compound in a golf cart Hardy got out and smashed Guevara’s golf cart with a monster truck However, Guevara took control early by using a trash can and bouncing Hardy off the tree After a fight in Hardy’s front yard, Guevara dipped Hardy in a fountain before Hardy turned the tides with a scepter The two made their way to a ring where Hardy hits a side effect for a two-way count Hardy set up a table and bombarded Guevara across the table Hardy attempted to cover Guevara, but Santana and Ortiz stepped in to make it into an equation 3 on 1 After Santana and Ortiz arrived, Private Party went to the Hardy Compound and got involved in the Hardy match then was raining fireworks around the ring Guevara did the same, and the two had traded fireworks throughout the complex Hardy Hardy hit a Twist of Fate on Guevara before a hooded figure appeared holding Hurricane Helms The character turned out to be Gangrel, who released Private Party Hurricane Helms was thrown into the Lake of Reincarnation by Guevara Guevara dodged an attempt Twist of Fate and superkicked Hardy Gangrel, The Hurricane, Private Party, Santana and Ortiz, Hardy and Guevara all came together in the ring again and committed in one he all-out brawl Guevara and his group chased Hardy into the « Dome of Suppression », but Hardy was able to close the garage door, just locking himself and Guevara inside Inside the « Dome of Suppression » « was a ring and Guevara ended up hitting a Swanton bomb on a ladder across a table However, Hardy veered at two o’clock and hit a Twist of Fate on Guevara Hardy followed him with a spear across two tables which were set up outside the ring Hardy ended up hitting Guevara’s head against the concrete with a steel chair and won the pin After the match, Private Party helped Hardy load Guevara into a trash can and the load in the back of a truck, which Senator Benjamin drove out of the Hardy complex The « elite suppression » was definitely one of the most interesting things we’ve seen The return of Hurricane Helms and Gangrel was a pretty cool touch for the older generation of wrestling fans These cutscene matches aren’t usually for me, but this one was pretty solid Matt Hardy def Sammy Guevara via pinfall Note: B-

MJF vs. Chris Jericho: MJF came out loud out the door before Jericho got the upper hand outside the ring Jericho even trolled MJF as he grabbed the camera and laughed at him Jericho got hurt on the arm early in the match and MJF made a point of attacking Jericho’s arm throughout the match Jericho was able to turn the tide and connected on a Lionsault from the rope of the middle Jericho followed this with a Frankensteiner from the top rope MJF was able to change momentum when he knocked Jericho off the top rope MJF also taunted Jericho by slapping him when he was groggy Jericho was forced to use his arm left to deliver knife chops Jericho succeeded in putting MJF within the walls of Jericho, but MJF crawled up to the ropes to break the hold MJF then attempted to land his own Lionsault, but Jericho managed to dodge him and to hit a Codebreaker Moments later, Jericho went for the Judas effect, but MJF was able to counter in his Fujiwara Armbar Jericho, however, escaped the move Wardlow came to hand MJF the « Dynamite Diamond Ring », but MJF missed Jericho Jake Hager also got down in the ring and threw his bat at Jericho, « Floyd » MJF acted like Jericho hit him with the bat As the ref was scolding Jericho, MJF rolled him up and got the pin Le match itself had its moments but was not as impressive as many might have hoped It was pretty cool to see MJF beat Jericho in his own game and score a questionable « Demogod » pin It will be interesting to see how this scenario will play out in the coming weeks MJF def Chris Jericho via pinfall Grade: C

AEW World Championship – Jon Moxley (c) vs Eddie Kingston (I Quit Match): The match started out as a slugfest in which Moxley and Kingston exchanged punches and knife chops As the two were outside the ring Moxley threw a chair at Kingston and threw him into the guardrail Moxley continued his offensive assault and suplexed Kingston on the concrete outside Moxley fished a wire bat barbed wire under the ring and hit Kingston several times The AEW champion also rolled the barbed wire bat in Kingston’s face to make him bust Kingston was finally able to change his fortune by throwing Moxley at the wire bat barbed wire that was lying in the ring Kingston also wrapped a piece of barbed wire around his fist and repeatedly punched Moxley from a mounted position Kingston subjected Moxley to a wrist lock, but Moxley bit Kingston’s leg in order to break the grip Kingston set up two tables for Moxley suplex, but Moxley blocked him and distributed his own suplex to Kingston Kingston a threw a bag of thumbtacks in the ring and looked to use them on Moxley The champ went for a paradigm shift in Kingston, but Kingston reversed it and pushed Moxley back on the thumbtacks Moments later, Kingston got rubbing alcohol from the timekeeper’s area and poured it on Moxley’s back Kingston responded by throwing thumbtacks in Moxley’s face He attempted a bulldog choke, which was the same move Moxley beat Kingston with on an episode of Dynamite last month Moxley was able to counter in a sleeper hold before switching to a piledriver After the piledriver, Moxley drove Kingston’s head straight into the mat with a paradigm shift Moxley used a piece of barbed wire to help him in a bulldog choke After a few moments Kingston said the words « I quit » After the match was concluded, Kenny Omega came down to the ring to exchange some pleasantries with Moxley With Omega defeating « Hangman » Adam Page earlier in the night to become the No.1 contender for the AEW Championship, he will face Moxley in the near future

As that shouldn’t come as a surprise, this match was absolutely brutal with everything from barbed wire to bedbugs to rubbing alcohol Kingston looked really great throughout the match and pushed Moxley to his limit. wasn’t the game of the year, but it was really entertaining and allowed for a big feud with one of wrestling’s top trash talkers in Kingston Jon Moxley def Eddie Kingston will retain the title Note: B
