Over the past decades, classical singers have performed duets with their pop and rock counterparts Famous Freddie Mercury has led the way with his Barcelona song and album recorded with lyrical soprano Montserrat Caballé Now in an exclusive interview with Expressco UK, Andrea Bocelli shared how he enjoys listening to Queen; praising the band and Freddie Mercury

« A rock music giant with impressive vocal talent, as well as Queen and their immeasurable creativity, whose inspiration draws so much from melodrama

« I find rock music in itself entertaining and often very interesting, although it is not really my role to perform this genre in particular! »

When asked if Freddie Mercury actually helped pave the way for his duet with Sarah Brightman, the 62-year-old agreed

Bocelli said: “Certainly this duo of Mercure and Caballé had significant importance in terms of the evolution of classical music towards the mainstream during these years.

« I don’t particularly like labels and, as I have said in the past, I find some ambiguity in the term ‘crossover’

« Music can and should be enjoyed by everyone without needing to fit into a particular box! »

The Italian tenor and Brightman had one of the best-selling singles of all time in Time to Say Goodbye

Bocelli tells us that he would like to do a duet with her again, as well as with Ed Sheeran, with whom he sang on Perfect Symphony in 2017

« But the two duets triggered a special chemistry that allowed one to improve the expressive qualities of the other »

Now the Italian tenor duets with Alison Krauss and Cecilia Bartoli on their latest album Believe, due out next month

Bocelli said: « Regarding the duets, it was a great joy to intertwine my voice with that of the great Cecilia Bartoli, the most important mezzo-soprano of our time with her own flourishing career

« It was a great joy to have the opportunity to do a duet with Alison Krauss, a multi-talented and exuberant artist, one of the true icons of American music »
