World News – GB – Bad night for Stoke worsens after final whistle

Adam Davies will be scanned today for a painful knee injury that capped a bad night for Stoke City

The fit goalkeeper was sent off at half-time in a 2-0 loss to Swansea, replaced by debutant Angus Gunn, as Stoke fell to his first away loss of the season

Speaking after the final whistle, Michael O’Neill said: « He had a collision which resulted in a knee injury. I can’t give you details at the moment but he was in a lot of pain

« He will come back with us now and be scanned tomorrow (Wednesday) and we will know the extent of the damage and the length of the potential absence

« I can’t give you exact numbers in terms of the actual injury other than the fact that he obviously had a blow to his knee and that was enough to get him loose »

It was a game where most Stoke City fans were probably grateful that it was played behind closed doors

Stoke have never faced a Swansea side who are expected to challenge at the far right of the table, conceding two sloppy goals and losing goalkeeper Adam Davies at halftime due to injury Angus Gunn came to do his emergency debut

They only mustered two shots and this defense that had kept seven out of nine clean sheets has now conceded six out of three

The highlights were few and far between: clearing an indirect free kick on the line, maybe James McClean wasn’t sent off when he lost his rag in the finals and the fact that the matches are going pretty quickly so as not to get too bad on this one

Middlesbrough offered a daring Sam Clucas-Paddy McNair swap deal with Stoke City this summer, reports show

Neil Warnock’s side wanted to take last season’s top scorer Clucas to Teesside, according to Middlesbrough-based journalist Graeme Bailey, but a deal did not make it past the early stages due to salary concerns

Warnock has confirmed that he is considering offloading McNair as part of a swap deal, but has not mentioned with whom

Swansea City AFC, Stoke City FC, EFL Championship, Jay Fulton, Kasey Palmer, Michael O’Neill
