Former Great British Bake Off finalist Luis Troyano, who starred in the show’s Series 5 in 2014, has died of cancer at the age of 48

On Tuesday, November 3, a statement was released by the management team of Mr. Troyano, AK Artist Management, to announce his death

« Unfortunately my lovely client lost his courageous battle with esophageal cancer last week, » the statement read

« A fantastic man with a passion for baking who saw him advance to the GBBO final, write a wonderful book, Bake It Great and much more Always in our thoughts »

AK Artist Management also shared a link to a fundraiser organized by his family in his memory to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support

The JustGiving fundraiser set up in his honor includes a message from his partner Louise Troyano, which reads: “Your life has been a blessing, your memory a treasure, you are loved beyond words and you miss beyond measure « 

It also includes a message from M Troyano, thanking everyone who took care of him during his cancer treatment

‘Special thanks to Macmillan Cancer Support, East Cheshire Hospice and the NHS including Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust, The Christie NHS Foundation Trust and Stockport NHS Foundation Trust for trying to save my life and their tireless work to try to eliminate cancer, ‘he said

« But more importantly, a huge thank you to all the amazing professionals who really did their best for me, showed me absolute compassion and gave me more time than was apparently possible. sincerely thanks « 

« This is extremely sad My thoughts and condolences to his loved ones, » tweeted John Whaite, who won the third round of the pastry competition

Bake Off illustrator Tom Hovey tweeted: « I am sad to hear of the passing of the wonderful baker and charming man @luistroyano from the 2014 #GBBO series »

The year following his appearance in The Great British Bake Off, M Troyano published his first book titled Bake It Great

He once said in an interview with the pastry blog Baking Mad that one of his favorite moments on the show was from Bread Week, when he wowed Judge Paul Hollywood with his rye rolls.

« Paul Hollywood said he had never tasted my rye rolls before and he shook my hand. I was blown away, » he said
